With camp beds or loungers for superior sleeping comfort in the great outdoors

Using camp beds correctly - what should you bear in mind?

The frame of the lounger or bed should be stable so that it does not fall over during nighttime movements. If there is no place to place it on stone or concrete, at least a flat surface should be considered when setting up the lounger.

Each camp bed comes with information about the maximum load, which must be observed. If you want to travel longer distances with the bed, you should remember that the heavier the load, the heavier the bed will be.

A bed protects you from sleeping directly on the ground, but not from potential pests in the air. Depending on your destination, you should purchase an additional mosquito net and place it around the camp bed to ensure it fits snugly.

Find the right camp bed or camping bed

ASMC's range includes a number of folding beds / folding loungers, but not all of them are equally suitable for every purpose. Before choosing a model, you should first consider who will be using the particular lounger. The dimensions and maximum load capacity of the lounger should be adjusted to this to ensure adequate sleeping comfort. Since larger models can quickly add several kilos of luggage, the dimensions and weight should be calculated as tightly as possible. This saves unnecessary effort when transporting the camp beds if you regularly change location during a trip.

From classic camouflage colors of the German army to single-colored models, various variants are offered that differ visually for more than just aesthetic reasons. If you want to spend a quiet night and not attract uninvited guests, you should match the color of your bed to the surroundings. The functionality of the color choice for the terrain should be considered before any aesthetic considerations.

To ensure that the camp beds last a long time, it is important to ensure that the frame is of a high quality. The ASMC range generally relies on high-quality aluminum, which can be used for countless trips, field camps and excursions, provided the maximum load of a bed is taken into account.

But a camp bed that doesn't take up much space when folded up is also recommended as a guest bed, although you can of course also use the slightly heavier air bed. These models are a little more comfortable for the guest.

Use a sleeping pad in addition to insulation

Even if you are protected from the cold ground with such a field bed, you should not underestimate the fact that your back and the underside of your body can get very cold when lying down. In this case, it is advisable to use a sleeping mat that lives up to its name.

What types of storage and transportation options are available?

Some camp beds come with a practical carrying bag, which, depending on the folding mechanism of the bed, can be very compact when packed (see next point). This not only protects the bed from damage and dirt, but also allows for the best carrying comfort for the respective model.

What is the packing size?

The packing size is the space required for a bed when it is folded up and ready for transport. This must of course be taken into account along with the weight of the product when travelling, whether by car or on foot. A common weight for products with a steel frame is 8 kg.

How do differences in quality become apparent?

You can tell pretty quickly whether you are lying on a high-quality camp bed or a cheap model. It has to do with the stability of the entire construction as well as the covering or the material used for it. If you want to use the bed more than twice a year, you should not cut corners here.

Which frame material is recommended?

Most beds have an aluminum, steel or wooden frame: aluminum is of course the lightest, steel can sometimes increase the overall weight significantly if it is made of wide tubes. However, it is also much more stable. A mixed variant is therefore often used: aluminum frames reinforced with steel tubes, which simply have a small diameter steel tube on the inside. Then there are the wooden variants, which can be more pleasant to assemble (aluminum frames are sometimes considered to have sharp edges).

What types of covering material are there?

There are models with a cotton blend, but pure nylon is also often used. Unfortunately, this is sometimes a bit "louder" when you move on it. But of course personal preferences also play a certain role here. If you value the ability to wipe clean, you might be better off choosing the nylon version.

How long should the bed be?

If you are taller, you can easily hit the crossbars at the top and bottom, which is particularly uncomfortable in the head area. That's why you should make sure the total length is sufficient so that you can still lie comfortably on the soft surface.
