Perfectly equipped with airsoft pistols for close combat

Find out everything you need to know for realistic outdoor battles with your friends. Questions about ammunition, model differences, legal issues - we try to clarify everything.

Important information on using airsoft pistols

Soft air pistols are so-called imitation weapons. This means that in many cases they cannot be distinguished from real weapons at first glance. Purchasing such weapons is permitted under Section 42a of the Weapons Act, but carrying them in public is prohibited. The use of soft air pistols is only permitted on private, fenced-in property and at shooting ranges. When transporting the weapon, it must be kept in a locked container.

Different projectile energies in airsoft weapons

Airsoft weapons are equipped with different projectile energies. The projectile energy determines the speed at which the BB leaves the barrel. The projectile energy, often given in joules, describes the kinetic energy that a soft air bullet (BB) has when it leaves the barrel. This energy directly influences how dangerous or painful a hit can be.

Softair pistols up to 0.5 joules

Weapons up to 0.5 joules can be sold to young people under 18, although a minimum age of 14 is recommended. If the energy exceeds 0.5 joules, the minimum age is 18.

Regulations for airsoft pistols larger than 0.5 joules

For airsoft pistols with a projectile energy of more than 0.5 joules, the minimum age for purchase and ownership increases to 18 years.

Safety notice

When using any type of airsoft weapon, you should always wear protective goggles to protect your eyes. If the projectile energy of the weapon used exceeds 0.5 joules, you should also wear full face protection in the form of a protective mask .

What types of engines are there for airsoft pistols?

Softair pistols with spring pressure

Softair pistols with spring pressure systems are the only ones that are independent of energy sources (apart from your own muscle power) and are therefore very suitable as backup weapons for longer games. Inside the weapon there is a coil spring that is tensioned by hand. The bullet itself is accelerated by air pressure. A disadvantage of spring pressure weapons is that, due to their design, they only have a single shot mode and therefore cannot fire fully or semi-automatically.

Softair pistols with gas

Gas-powered airsoft pistols use a propellant gas to accelerate the bullet. A gas tank is integrated into the weapon and is filled from the outside. This system enables a rapid sequence of shots and often offers a more realistic recoil simulation than other propulsion methods. Since the gas is under pressure, it is important to service the weapon regularly and ensure that there are no leaks.

Softair pistols with CO2

Softair weapons with CO2 are equipped with CO2 capsules in the magazine. The capsules provide the driving energy for the BBs and ensure that the slide moves quickly back and forth after the trigger is pulled. Softair pistols with CO2 propulsion therefore have a stronger and more authentic recoil, just like the gas-powered pistols described above.

Electric airsoft pistols

In electric pistols, a battery-operated electric motor is powered by a replaceable battery. Airsoft weapons like these are also known as AEGs, which stands for Automatic Electric Gun. When the trigger is pulled, this motor takes over the tensioning of the spring, which then generates compressed air via the piston, which is used to propel the bullet. Electric pistols are able to fire very high rates of fire in fully automatic mode, which makes them particularly popular in competitions. The kinetic energy of fully automatic airsoft pistols must not exceed 0.5 joules in Germany.

Questions: Airsoft pistols

What is a hop-up system?

The hop-up system stabilizes the BB's trajectory. This effect is achieved by a backward spin, which causes the bullet to follow an upwardly curved trajectory. However, if the system is optimally adjusted, this balances out with gravity, allowing a straight trajectory to be achieved.

What is meant by blow-back?

In a blow-back airsoft pistol, the slide is fully functional, just like in real weapons. This means that it automatically repeats itself with each shot, resulting in a more realistic recoil.
