High-quality sleeping bags for warm outdoor nights

Sleeping bags ensure warm nights and a peaceful, warm sleep. We show you what to look out for.

What should be taken into account when using it?

Sleeping bags can be opened and closed using a zipper. The zipper should be opened before getting into the sleeping bag. Once the body is in the sleeping bag, the zipper can be closed again. This leads to optimal use of the space. A small pack size is therefore extremely important here.

The sleeping bags in our range are made of warm materials that are weather-resistant. This means that most of the models can also be used outdoors. To ensure that the sleeping bag can be transported quickly and efficiently, it must be rolled up and then stuffed into a compression bag. The sleeping bag protects against the cold at night and ensures a comfortably warm sleep. The high quality of our sleeping bags guarantees a long service life.

Which sleeping bag is the right one?

You can't go wrong when choosing and buying sleeping bags from the range presented here. All of our sleeping bags are olive green or other shades of green. This means that the sleeping bags can be used in tactical maneuvers without any problems and can be used in both summer and winter. They blend in unobtrusively with the environment, are lightweight and do not emit any telltale color signals.

The size of sleeping bags can vary. The different brands that specialize in sleeping bags, such as the Carinthia brand, offer a wide variety of types and sizes and should be adapted to personal circumstances. A length of 200 centimeters should be sufficient for even the tallest user. It is important that the sleeping bag is not too small under any circumstances. Otherwise it could be tight: This not only leads to a lack of heat generation or support, but also to constriction, which promotes poor sleep. Large sleeping bags guarantee maximum mobility, which ensures a good feeling.

The weight of a sleeping bag must also be taken into account, so an ultra-light sleeping bag does not make transport unnecessarily difficult.

Expert tip:

Washing/cleaning sleeping bags the right way

Normally, you don't have to do it, but every now and then a sleeping bag is just ready for a wash. Since this should be hand-washing, you'll mostly have to wash it in the bathtub. Normally, the filling material shouldn't play a role here, but of course you should follow the manufacturer's instructions and give these tips priority over other tips.

It is a good idea to fill the bathtub with a relatively small amount of water and mix it with detergent. If there is an inner lining in the sleeping bag, this should be removed first. Then the sleeping bag is placed in the tub and kneaded. After it has been thoroughly cleaned, the water can be drained and the sleeping bag wrung out. Of course, you now have to repeat a few rinses with clean water in the same way.

To dry it, we recommend setting up a sturdy drying rack in the bathtub and hanging the sleeping bag over it, preferably with two people. A lot of water will drip off, so it is best to choose a place like the bathtub for draining and drying.

After that, you can think about waterproofing. There are special sprays and products for this. If waterproofing is necessary, this will usually be noted in the manufacturer's care instructions.

Questions: Sleeping bags

What shapes of sleeping bags are there?

Blanket sleeping bags: The classic sleeping bag shape, good for mild temperatures.

Egg- or teardrop-shaped sleeping bags

These are a good compromise between a blanket and a mummy sleeping bag. They are designed to be more movement-friendly than blanket sleeping bags.

Mummy sleeping bags

Can also be used in cooler temperatures and are ideal for winter and optimally adapted to the heat zones of the body.

How do you find the right size/fit?

The only thing to bear in mind here is that any free space that is created in the sleeping bag, for example due to excessive length, is difficult for the body to warm up. But it is even more important to find the right shape for you, for example a mummy sleeping bag. This means that the shape of the sleeping bag is not straight, but rather adapted to the shape of the body. Since open-air areas always have to be warmed up, this shape is of course advantageous, as these areas are avoided as much as possible.

What features should you look out for?

A hood or warm collar can help prevent the head area from cooling down. Zippers often have a cover strip so that little heat can escape and you can't injure yourself so easily.

What is the so-called differential cut?

Modern sleeping bags usually consist of several covers, the inner and the outer. The covers should be different sizes to prevent the filling from being compressed.

What does coupling mean for sleeping bags?

So that you can use the sleeping bag as a blanket when you are on holiday with two people, you should make sure that you buy two sleeping bags of the same model. This will ensure that the zips fit together exactly. There is usually a right and a left model, which basically only refers to the zip side. If you do not need an insulating underside or a headboard, you can also connect two right or left models.

What filling materials are available?

There are fillings made of down or synthetic fiber. In principle, there are no major advantages or disadvantages, so you can decide relatively freely. Experience from long-term outdoor users shows that the much-talked-about absorption of down with moisture is actually only rarely true. The only thing to bear in mind is that if you decide on a down sleeping bag, you should not cut corners and place value on a high-quality down filling.

What does the so-called bulking power mean?

When it comes to down, you should pay attention to the fill power information, although the data provided by the manufacturer does not necessarily correspond to reality. The values are given in "k/u", cubic inches/ounce, e.g. 725 k/u. This explains why the information is often given in "cuin", which means "cubic inches".

What does swelling capacity mean?

The swelling capacity, also known as loft, describes the ratio of the material between pure down and coarser, featherier down in down fillings. These serve as support springs, so to speak. The specification 80/20 would indicate that the sleeping bag contains 80% pure down and 20% filling down.

What is the best way to store it?

As long as the sleeping bag has not become damp or wet, you can simply pack it - not compressed - into one of the textile covers, such as those offered for storage under the bed, after use and after letting it air out for a while. Alternatively, some outdoor fans have also wrapped their sleeping bags in old bed covers. The important thing is that you do not squeeze or press it, as this would compress the filling material too much, prevent it from unfolding completely and therefore also prevent it from insulating as well. There are also special storage bags, however, so everyone has to decide for themselves what they prefer.
