Adhesive or fabric tape belongs in the outdoor equipment

Duct tape ensures that objects that are to be connected to one another have the necessary hold. It is supplied on practical rolls. As an alternative name, it can also be called duct tape or gaffa tape/gaffer tape.

The possible uses for adhesive tape are very diverse

Duct tape can be used in a variety of ways. In many cases, for example, it is used to secure luggage during transport. This can be wrapped around to make it more secure. This is necessary on flights, for example, because it is known that luggage is often not handled very carefully. The tape can also be used to secure objects. It has a wide base that sticks firmly and can be easily removed from the roll. Roll holders help with use by holding the tape and making it easier to tear off using an integrated knife or serrated "blade".

The adhesive tapes are available in different sizes and designs

ASMC offers adhesive tape for various applications. Carpet tape is not only suitable for securing carpets, it is also very useful when camping or doing other outdoor activities. You should always carry a roll with you. Duct tape has a very high adhesive strength. The name was taken from the military sector, and the tape is also often used in the military sector. For some time now, however, it has also become common in everyday life.

Expert tip:

Make things easier to find in the dark with phosphorescent tape

Wrapping guns and flashlights on them isn't the only way to make handling easier in the dark, as you see in films. There are also similar uses for normal applications. There is adhesive tape that charges itself with light during the day and emits light in a faint glow at night using fluorescent/phosphorescent material. Ideal for finding things more easily, for example when you're in a tent.

Questions: Adhesive tape

What is the difference between duct tape and adhesive tape?

It's basically one and the same thing. Duct tape is considered to be extremely tear-resistant and was and is used primarily in the military. The big advantage of these adhesive tapes is their extreme tear and adhesive strength. Almost no other adhesive material sticks to such unsuitable surfaces as stone. Duct tape usually holds very well even there.

Where does the term gaffer tape or gaffa tape come from?

In English, the lighting masters in films and theaters are called "gaffers," which is why gaffer tape was developed over time. Even today, this is used in stage technology to temporarily seal many cables or lay them out so that no one can trip over them.

Where does the English term "duct tape" come from?

Adhesive tape was probably originally invented for the military, as is often the case, to protect the openings and gaps in ammunition boxes from water. But these extremely robust adhesive tapes soon found their way into the hands of caretakers and homeowners. They liked to repair their pipes ("ductwork") for the gutters using this tape. Over time, this probably gave rise to "duct tape". At the same time, the standard color changed from military green to the usual gray. Another reason could be the close relationship to the word duck, which, in addition to the classic meaning of duck, also refers to a very hard-wearing fabric made of cotton.
