Where does the word holster come from?

A holster is a bag or holder for all kinds of items that require quick access. This can apply to all areas of working life, from police officers, shooters or hunters to waiters. The word is often used as a synonym for halter and probably comes from the term holfter. This used to refer to holders that were mounted on horse saddles for firearms.
