Be on target – here you will find useful tips and advice on handling airsoft guns.

Airsoft rifles are imitation weapons

In Germany and according to the Weapons Act, airsoft guns are also referred to as imitation weapons. This is because they are often difficult to distinguish from real weapons and can therefore lead to confusion and misjudgments. Purchasing them is permitted according to Section 42a of the Weapons Act. However, it is not permitted to carry or even use these weapons in public. This may only be done on a fenced private property or at shooting ranges. When transporting airsoft guns, they must be kept in a locked container.

Limitations on projectile energy

Restrictions must also be observed with regard to the kinetic energy generated when the shot is fired, which is transferred to the bullet and largely determines its speed and range. Soft air guns with an energy exceeding 0.5 joules may only be sold to persons aged 18 or over. If the projectile energy is less than 0.5 joules, there are no restrictions, but a minimum age of 14 is recommended. Fully automatic soft air guns may not exceed 0.5 joules in Germany.

Popular airsoft rifles:
• AK47
Heckler & Koch G36

Accesories:
• Silencer

Take appropriate protective measures

When using any type of airsoft weapon, you should always wear suitable safety clothing. This applies especially to the eyes and face. Regardless of the energy of the weapon, it is therefore always advisable to wear protective goggles. For more powerful weapons (~1 joule or more), you should wear full face protection.

Drive types for airsoft rifles

Spring pressure system: Inside such weapons there is a coil spring that has to be tensioned by hand before each shot. This is why spring pressure rifles only have a single shot mode. When the spring is tensioned it generates air pressure that then propels the bullet. The advantage of spring pressure airsoft guns is that they are independent of other energy sources.

Gas-powered rifles: A special gas (usually green gas) is filled into the integrated tank from the outside via a quick-loading valve to generate pressure. This gas then serves as the propulsion system.

CO2 Pistols: CO2 rifles are fitted with CO2 gas cartridges and then function basically like the gas-powered pistols described above. However, replacing a gas cartridge takes a little longer than refilling a gas-powered rifle.

Electric guns: These are also known as AEGs (Automatic Electric Gun). An electric motor is used to cock the piston, which can also be done in rapid succession, thus enabling automatic firing modes with a high firing frequency. It should be noted that fully automatic airsoft weapons in Germany are not allowed to exceed 0.5 joules.

Questions: Airsoft rifle

What ammunition do airsoft guns fire?

The ammunition is called BB. This abbreviation stands for both "Baby Bullets" and "Bearing Balls". BBs have a diameter of 6 millimeters and are available in different qualities, colors and weights. There are also biodegradable BBs made from starch - in damp weather these decompose completely within a few weeks.

What is a hop-up system?

The hop-up is used to stabilize the trajectory of a projectile. To do this, the projectile is set in rotation, which is intended to trigger an upwardly curved trajectory. However, if correctly adjusted, this balances out with gravity, resulting in a straight trajectory.
