Berghaus Ltd. is a traditional brand for mountaineering and outdoor equipment whose history dates back to 1966.
Founded by two Britons, Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison, in Newcastle upon Tyne with the aim of developing high-quality equipment for leisure activities in higher mountain regions, over the decades the focus of production has shifted to backpacks and clothing items such as jackets and vests, which are still valued worldwide as outdoor fashion today.
In addition to basics such as T-shirts and long-sleeved shirts, Berghaus offers vests and jackets made of softshell and other contemporary materials. Their selection is ideal if you are looking for a classic windstopper to keep cold and wet out of your body and to benefit from a first-class indoor climate. The breathable fabric does not restrict you unnecessarily and can be worn in combination with several layers of shirts without overheating the body in cold outdoor conditions.
When choosing Berghaus backpacks, you should pay attention not only to the required capacity but also to the closure principle. Depending on the model, the backpack lids have one or more additional pockets or integrated backpacks to keep essential equipment close at hand or to react immediately in emergency situations. In addition, many backpacks have zip-off bags that can be used as additional storage bags.
- The name Berghaus is unusual for a British brand, but was actually chosen in reference to the German language and the Alpine region. The British founders were not aware that the term Berghütte would be used in German instead of Berghaus.
- The success of the retail chain behind Berghaus was largely due to the import of hiking and snowshoes from the international brand SCARPA, which still enjoys the highest reputation, especially among older mountaineers.
- Another factor in the brand's success was the range of innovative backpacks at the beginning of the 1970s. Their aim was to be able to distribute ballast more intelligently and thus be able to transport more without perceiving it as an additional burden.
