What devices and accessories are available?

Most people are probably familiar with the Garmin company (actually "Garmin Ltd.") for its navigation devices for cars. However, the manufacturer also offers a number of devices for outdoor enthusiasts. From small and light GPS sports watches to dedicated GPS trackers, there are many different types of devices and equipment variants. A popular model is the Garmin 62s, which ASMC offers.

The American company was founded in 1989 and is based in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. However, production takes place in Kansas and Taiwan. The name is made up of the initials of the two founders, Gary Burrell and Min Kao.

How do the device classes differ?
Garmin offers devices of different classes:

What are the biggest differences in detail?
Some devices have a color display, while others are designed purely for map display using a simple grayscale LCD. Both variants have advantages and disadvantages, of course, because a (high-resolution) color display unfortunately also requires more power. The energy-saving black and white displays, on the other hand, cannot provide such a fine display, but work longer on one battery charge.

What about the map material of the devices?
Many handheld devices, regardless of the manufacturer, are supplied with a basic set of maps. This includes many basic street maps for the most important/largest cities, so you can usually get started straight away. If you need a higher resolution of an area, e.g. on vacation, you usually have to purchase an additional map area from the manufacturer. The areas are usually separated by continent.
