More and more law enforcement officers are being injured in action, and unfortunately the trend is increasing. Police officers are being attacked, seriously injured and killed to enforce criminal interests. However, if you are in good physical shape, your chances of survival are much higher than you think. Studies suggest that if you have a strong sense of self-confidence, you can survive negative stress situations very well. This textbook is deliberately not intended as a scientific study, but rather as a practical example for practice. Service sports are something that every police officer and soldier needs. Any officer can find themselves in such life-threatening situations at any time, whether they want to or not. A determined attacker will not ask about it. Mental and, above all, physical fitness are essential for the police and military profession, from the first to the last day of work. Fitness is life insurance for exposed emergency personnel. If you do not train regularly, you are endangering yourself and others. Citizens and colleagues seeking help expect physically and mentally capable emergency personnel. That is why staying fit is not an option, but an obligation. The book addresses the special mental and physical challenges of the police profession. The numerous details about the connection between regular exercise, mental health and vitality also apply to all professions in which a particular level of physical fitness is required (e.g. security forces, soldiers on duty and special forces of all kinds). Facing the current terrorist threats from small, militarily organised groups and brutal individual perpetrators with commitment, assertiveness and courage requires training. Handling the additional equipment - ballistic helmet, plate carrier, shield and assault rifle - requires a stable physical foundation. The greatest challenge in a long firefight, however, is the mental tension. Emergency services must be able to prepare for this. Only with the right training can you get the mental tension and physical exhaustion under control. Aggressiveness, a willingness to use violence and recklessness have a negative connotation in everyday life in modern civil society, and rightly so. In an attack or defence situation in life-threatening operational situations, however, they are controlled and indispensable within the framework of proportionality. The book passes on important insights and training processes from an experienced police officer and athlete as well as instructor to the reader. Also worthy of special mention are the chapters on service sports for over-40s, sports after (operational) injuries, sports during operations under difficult conditions and preparation for the selection procedures of various special forces.
